High speed cable-40G QSFP
2017-02-27

The development of science and technology makes the human continue to move forward to the information society, in this context, the demand for information such as images, sound and data is increasing, and the communication means and information capacity of the past cannot meet the needs of today. So that 40G is widely used in data center network deployment.

As a low-cost alternative to 40G optical modules, QSFP + high-speed cables have been widely used in short-range high-speed interconnects such as Gigabit Ethernet, Gigabit switches, servers, supercomputers, cloud computing, and cloud storage networks.

QSFP+ to QSFP+ 40GB Active Copper Cable
High-speed cable generally consists of a copper cable and two optical modules. Because of its use of optical modules and fiber optic cable seamless connection to ensure that the optical port is not exposed to reduce the dust and other pollutants, and also reduce the cost and simplify the installation. Compared with the traditional cable, 40G QSFP + high-speed cables have the following characteristics:
Transmission distance
Compared with the active optical cable, high-speed cable transmission distance is short, suitable for short-distance data center cabling. Among them, the maximum transmission distance of the passive cable is about 5m, while the active optical cable transmission distance of up to 15m.
Material
The high-speed cable is made of copper core which has the function of natural radiator, excellent cooling effect, energy saving and eco-friendly.
Power consumption
The power consumption of high-speed cable is low. As the passive cable does not need power, power consumption is almost 0; active cable power consumption is generally about 440mW. Compared with the active cable of 2W, in terms of power consumption, high-speed cable is better.
Cost
The price of copper is much lower than fiber, so using high-speed cables will also reduce the overall data center cabling costs.

The 40G QSFP + high-speed cable provided by Cozlink (cozlink.com) have excellent compatibility. Length, color, labels, etc. can be customized.

The following table provides some of the high-speed cable product parameters:

Now, with the development of 40G and 100G, fiber optic cable cabling gradually popular, but because of factors such as cost and transmission distance, copper cabling will not be replaced immediately, will continue to exist in short distance wiring, and become a low cost solution for short distance transmission.
