What is the 40GBASE-SR technology?
40GBASE-SR ("short range") is a port type for multi-mode fiber and uses 850 nm lasers. Its Physical Coding Sublayer 64b/66b PCS is defined in IEEE 802.3 Clause 82 and its Physical Medium Dependent PMD in Clause 86. What are the Difference Between 40GBASE-SR and 40GBASE-FR?
The 40GBASE-SR QSFP module supports link lengths of 100 and 150 meters, respectively, on laser-optimized OM3 and OM4 multimode fibers. It primarily enables high-bandwidth 40G optical links over 12-fiber parallel fiber terminated with MPO/MTP multifiber female connectors. 40GBASE-SR is optimized to guarantee interoperability with any IEEE-compliant 40GBASE-SR module. 40GBASE-SR does not support FCoE.
