Huawei switches are known for their excellent performance and reliability. They are widely used in both small and large organizations for managing their networks. One of the essential tasks that network administrators may have to perform is to delete configuration on Huawei switch. In this article, we will explain how to delete configuration on Huawei switch step by step.
Before we start with the process, it is essential to understand what configuration is. Configuration refers to the set of commands that are programmed into the Huawei switch to perform specific functions. These commands define the behavior of the switch and how it should manage the traffic flow across the network. Sometimes, network administrators need to delete the configuration as it might no longer be useful, or it could cause issues with the network's performance. Let's look at the steps required to delete configuration on the Huawei switch..
The following is a list of common problems that our engineers have encountered in the course of solving problems for our customers.
I. Solution 1:
Backing Up the Configuration
Before we delete configuration on the Huawei switch, it is necessary to back up the current configuration to avoid any accidental loss of configuration data. The backup acts as a restore point if something goes wrong during the process of deleting configuration on the switch.
To back up the configuration, follow these steps:
Log in to the Huawei switch using SSH or Telnet.
Execute the "display current-configuration" command to view the current configuration of the switch.
Copy the configuration to a text-based file by using the "save file-name" command.
Store the backup file in a secure location. It is essential to keep backups of the switch's configuration as it can save time, effort, and mistakes while configuring the switch in the future.
Deleting the Configuration
After backing up the configuration, we can proceed with the process of deleting the configuration on the Huawei switch.
To delete the configuration, we have two options:
Option 1: Delete the Configuration Entirely
This option erases the entire configuration of the switch, removing all the defined parameters, interfaces, VLANs, and routing tables. Execute these steps to delete the configuration entirely:
Log in to the switch using SSH or Telnet.
Access the system view by typing the following command: "system-view."
Execute the "reset saved-configuration" command to remove all the configuration from the switch.
Save the configuration by pressing the "Y" button and then press "Enter."
This process will remove the switch's configuration, and it will be necessary to configure the switch again.
Option 2: Delete Specific Parts of the Configuration
This option deletes specific parts of the configuration, such as a defined interface or VLAN. It is useful when we need to remove a specific section from the configuration without losing the entire configuration. Follow these steps to delete specific parts of the configuration:
Log in to the switch using SSH or Telnet.
Access the system view by typing the following command: "system-view."
Use the "display current-configuration" command to view the current configuration.
Identify the section or part of the configuration you want to delete.
Use the "undo" command to delete the part of the configuration that you want to remove.
Save the updated configuration by typing the "save" command.
This process allows us to remove any specific sections of the configuration that we don't need without starting from scratch.
Conclusion
Deleting configuration on Huawei switch can sometimes be necessary to avoid network issues or to remove unused settings. We have discussed two options for deleting configuration from the Huawei switch: deleting the entire configuration and deleting specific parts of the configuration. To avoid any accidental loss of configuration data, it is essential first to backup the current configuration. The backing up process can save us time, effort, and mistakes while configuring the switch in the future. By following these steps, network administrators can efficiently and safely delete the configuration on the Huawei switch.
II. Solution 2:
Delete all Configurations of Huawei Switch
Today i will discuss about how to Delete all Configurations of Huawei Switch. We do it by two procedure. bellow are the procedure.
Procedure-1:
To delete all configurations of huawei switch, delete the vrpcfg.cfg file from the flash memory, and then restart the switch. The vrpcfg.cfg file cannot be deleted when it is running because it is used as the system file.
To delete the file forcibly, perform the following steps:
1.Restart the Switch and press Ctrl+B to enter the BootROM menu, and then enter the default password huawei / Admin@huawei.com
2.Press Ctrl+Z to enter the hidden menu, and then select option 2 to enter flash memory.
3.Delete the vrpcfg.cfg file from the flash memory, and then restart the device.
Procedure-1:
Type reset save-configuration then confirm & reboot this switch. Also follow bellow image/tutorial.

The reset save-configuration command cannot delete all the configurations of the Switch. For example, the bpdu enable configuration still exists after the command is executed.
Delete all Configurations of Huawei Switch
III. Solution 3:
Huawei switch clearing configuration (S3700)
1, user view, enter: reset saved-configuration; Enter: Y, confirm clear.
2, enter: reboot; reboot the system (the first prompt to enter: N do not save configuration; the second prompt to enter: Y confirm reboot).
IV. Solution 4:
As an engineer, to delete configuration commands on a Huawei 5300 switch, you can use the following commands.
First, enter the system view and use the undo command to remove the commands you want to delete.
Additionally, you can use the reset saved-configuration command to restore the switch's configuration to its factory settings, which will delete all configuration commands.
It's important to be cautious when deleting commands to prevent accidental deletion of important configurations that may cause network failures.
It's recommended to backup the configuration file before deleting any commands, so that it can be restored in case of any issues.
In addition, you can use the display current-configuration command to view the current configuration for better deletion operations.
V. Solution 5:
As an engineer, here's how to clear all configurations on a Huawei switch:
1.Clear the Huawei switch configuration command: write erase
2.Delete VLAN.
Step 1: Check the current VLAN configuration using the command: show vlan on the Cat2950.
Step 2: Check for the file name on Flash (both the switch's configuration file and IOS are saved in Flash). Use the command: dir flash: to view the specific name of the VLAN file in Flash. It's usually VLAN.DAT.
Step 3: Delete vlan.dat (the switch's VLAN information is saved in this file) using the command: delete flash:vlan.dat on the Cat2950.
Step 4: Check the current VLAN configuration to see if it has been cleared.
