Optical module solution to 40G Ethernet connection

Nowadays, 40G Ethernet is the preferred backbone uplink technology, is very popular in the data center. With the rise of the 40GbE QSFP + optical module market, more solutions can be applied that allow users have more choices. Direct connectivity between 40G network equipment
For the connection between 40GbE to 40GbE, that is the interconnection between two QSFP + ports, users can choose different optical cable, cable and optical module based on different transmission distance.
Distance reaches 7 meters: 40G QSFP+ to QSFP+ DAC
Distance reaches 100 meters: 40G QSFP+ to QSFP+ AOC or 40GBASE-SR4 QSFP+ optical module matches multi-mode fiber with MTP / MPO connector.
Distance reaches 300 meters: 40GBASE-CSR4 QSFP + optical module matches multi-mode fiber with MTP / MPO connector.
Distance reaches 1km: 40GBASE-PLRL4 QSFP + optical module matches single-mode fiber with MTP / MPO connector.
Distance reaches 10km: 40GBASE-LR4 QSFP + optical module matches single-mode fiber with LC connector.

As we all know, 40GbE port can be considered as a separate port or divided into 4 x 10GbE ports to use as well. Therefore adopts 40G QSFP+ to 4 x SFP+ DAC, that is one end is QSFP+ port and another end are 4 x SFP+ ports to increase the quantity of available 10GbE ports.

Network upgrade applications of 10G to 40G
In today’s server network, 10GbE has become commonplace, 10GbE multi-mode fiber with LC duplex connector is the main infrastructure for 10GbE network. For making full use of the existing 10GbE optical cable, 40GBASE-SR QSFP +BiDi optical module is the ideal choice. This kind of optical module with the use of WDM technology, the transmission distance up to of 100 meters when you use OM3 multi-mode fiber; while OM4 multi-mode fiber with LC duplex connector can reach 150 meters.
